The UK Tier 5 Visa Youth Mobility Program

With the UK tier 5 visa program, citizens or nationals from participating countries such as Japan, New Zealand, Monaco, Canada and Australia are able to enter the UK to live, work or study for a period of two years. As long as applicants are between the ages of 18 and 30, show proof of citizenship from the participating countries and have the means to support themselves while there, they will be considered.

There are exceptions, such as that overseas British nationals and citizens are able to be considered without sponsorship and are not subject to any annual allocation laws. Other applicants from the participating countries will need to be sponsored by their national government and will only be considered if the spots have not been filled when they are applying for the UK tier 5 visa.

Spouses, partners or others cannot enter the UK as dependents but can obtain their own clearance through the youth mobility program if they meet the requirements. Dependent children are also not permitted, and if the applicant has any children they are responsible for who are under the age of 18, they will not be considered for approval. This means that if as an applicant you have children who live with you or are dependent on you for financial support, your application will be denied. If you plan on working in the UK during your stay, you will need to open a bank account in the UK and also obtain an insurance number.

Unless you are working while in the UK the first 12 months, you will be required to pay for National Health Service Treatment. After living in the UK for 12 months, the applicant will become exempt from those charges. Applicants must be able to support themselves during their stay due to the fact that most state benefits are not available to them in case of a financial hardship.

When applying for a UK tier 5 visa, be sure that all claims on the application have documentation to back them up. If for any reason your application is unable to be determined correct, it could be rejected. If for any reason your application is denied, you can always ask for an administrative review or an appeal to get the approval you believe you deserve. There are allocation laws that may cause you to be turned down, such as there are only so many applicants approved per participating country.
