Dear All,
My question is what should we utter during salat when we are in
the position of standing, bowing and prostrating?
We cannot find any specific words in the Quran for specific
position. We can utter the words based on the Quran’s teaching.
Quran explains about salat position - standing, bowing and
prostrating. We know that
Quran explains everything. We can find the proof from following
verses:
(6:38) We did not leave anything out of this book.
(6:114) Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He
has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received
the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your
Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.
(16:89) We have revealed to you this book to provide
explanations for everything, and guidance, and mercy, and good
news for the submitters.
Based on the Quran, I found the following rules and words.
1.
(29:45) You shall recite what is revealed to you of the
Scripture (the Quran), and observe the Salat (Contact Prayers)
God tells us what should we do when we read the Quran.
(16:98) When you read the Quran, you shall seek refuge in GOD
from Satan the rejected.
**So, we should utter "A"uzu b"Allah min Al-Shaytan Al-Rajeem"
to start our salat as we must recite Quran during salat.
Then we should recite some verses.
2.
(2:185) GOD wishes for you convenience, not hardship, that you
may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify GOD for guiding
you, and to express your appreciation.
(17:111) And proclaim: "Praise be to GOD, who has never begotten
a son, nor does He have a partner in His kingship, nor does He
need any ally out of weakness," and magnify Him constantly.
**So, we should utter ‘Allahu Akbar’ to magnify Him.
3.
(56:74) You shall glorify the name of your Lord, the Great.
**So, we should utter "Sobhan Rabi Al-Azeem" (Praise my Lord the
Great) at any time during
the salat.
4.
(87:1) Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High.
** So, we should utter "Sobhan Rabi Al-Aala" (Praise
my Lord the Most High) at any time during the salat?
5.
(3:18) "God bears witness that there is no god except He, and so
do the angels and those who possess knowledge"
**So, we should utter the words “Ash"hadu ana la illaha ila
Allah" (I bear witness that there is no God other than God)
during salat?
6. (17:110)
Say, "Call Him GOD, or call Him Most Gracious; whichever name
you use, to Him belongs the best names." You shall not utter
your Contact Prayers (Salat) too loudly, nor secretly; use a
moderate tone.
(17:111) And proclaim: "Praise be to GOD, who has never begotten
a son, nor does He have a partner in His kingship, nor does He
need any ally out of weakness," and magnify Him constantly.
** So, we should utter "Al-Hamdu l"Allah alazee lam yatakhez
waladan, wa lam yakun lahu shareek fee al mulk, wa lam yakun
lahu waleyon min al zol"
(Praise
be to GOD, who has never begotten a son, nor does He have a
partner in His kingship, nor does He need any ally out of
weakness)
7. Conclusion of Salat:
Usually people conclude the salat by turning the head right/left
and utter “Al-Salamu alaykum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatu" (Peace
be upon you as well as God"s mercy and His blessings). But
Quran does not tell about this.
Who are we addressing when we utter these words “Al-Salamu
alaykum wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatu" (Peace be upon you as well
as God"s mercy and His blessings)? Surely we cannot be
addressing God because we cannot say to God, "may God's mercy
and blessings be upon you"!
We find about the conclusion of salat in the Quran as follow.
(10:10) Their prayer therein is, "Be you glorified our God"
their greeting therein is, "Peace" and the ending to their
prayer is, "Praise be to God, Lord of the Universe" .
** So, we should conclude our salat by uttering “Al-Hamdu
l"Allah Rab Al-Alameen” (Praise be to God, Lord of the
Universe)?
In summary, the method of observing the salat is as follows:
1. A"uzu
b"Allah min Al-Shaytan Al-Rajeem (I seek refuge in God from
Satan the rejected" (based
on 16:98)
Recite some verses (Based on 29:45).
2.
Allahu Akbar (God
is the Greatest) to be spoken frequently (based on 2:185 and
17:111).
3. Sobhan
Rabi Al-Azeem (Praise
my Lord the Great) (based on 56:74).
4.
Sobhan Rabi Al-Aala (Praise
my Lord the Most High) (based on 87:1).
5. Ash"hadu
ana la illaha ila Allah (I
bear witness that there is no God other than God) (based on
3:18).
6. Al-Hamdu
l"Allah alazee lam yatakhez waladan, wa lam yakun lahu shareek
fee al mulk, wa lam yakun lahu waleyon min al zol
(Praise be to God who has never begotten a son, nor does He have
a partner in His kingship, nor does He need an ally out of
weakness) (based on 17:111).
7. The
Salat concludes with the words:
Al-Hamdu l"Allah Rab Al-Alameen (Praise be to God, Lord of the
Universe)
(based on 10:10).
The above is my understanding from the Quran and other sources
based on the Quran.
There are many knowledgeable scholars in this group. It would be
great if any of you can explain this according to the Quran
only, as God explains everything in the Quran, and God tells us
not to seek other sources other than Quran.
